Introducing Tonen: Conversation Scripts for Neurodivergent People

5 min read

For neurodivergent people, social conversations can feel like navigating a maze without a map. Social cues aren't always clear, the "right" response isn't obvious, and the pressure to respond appropriately can be overwhelming.

That's why we're building Tonen - conversation scripts, tone guidance, and confidence tools specifically designed for neurodivergent people who find social interactions challenging.

The Challenge We're Solving

Social interactions come naturally to some people, but for many neurodivergent individuals, they require careful planning and consideration. You might find yourself:

  • Struggling to know what to say in professional meetings or social gatherings
  • Worrying about your tone and whether you're coming across as intended
  • Feeling overwhelmed by unexpected conversations or confrontations
  • Analyzing interactions afterward, wondering if you said the right thing
  • Avoiding social situations because they feel too unpredictable

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone. Research shows that many autistic adults, people with ADHD, and other neurodivergent individuals experience these challenges daily.

Our Solution: Practice, Tone, and Reflect

Tonen helps you approach conversations with confidence through three core features:

📝 Practice

Write down what you want to say before you need to say it. Create scripts for common situations, save responses for next time, and build a library of conversation tools that work for you.

Example scenario: You need to discuss a project timeline with your manager. Instead of improvising, you can prepare:

"Hi Sarah, I wanted to talk about the project timeline. I think we might need an extra week to get everything right."

🎵 Tone

Choose how you want to sound - friendly or serious, direct or gentle. Tonen provides tone guidance to help you communicate exactly what you mean, exactly how you mean it.

Example approach: For a sensitive conversation, you might choose a gentle approach:

"I'm wondering if we could explore some options for extending the deadline..."

🔄 Reflect

After conversations, take time to think about what worked and what you'd do differently. Build on your successes and learn from each interaction.

Example reflection:

"I explained my point clearly, but next time I'll ask more questions to understand their perspective."
